Walnut sides, pine lining and drawer bottoms, laser-cut marquetry lid, brass hardware (including mortised lock with key)
Spring-loaded secret drawer is locked/released by sliding out and reversing one side of the lining - the brass pin pushes down on the lever and disengages it from a notch to release the drawer.
This box comes from the world of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It belongs to Bailey Clarke, who is an admirer (or Rêveur) of Le Cirque des Rêves. He keeps all of the trinkets and keepsakes he’s collected from the circus in his box. He eventually inherits ownership of the circus, and we imagine he keeps his magical tools for sustaining the show in the box’s secret drawer.
